Social Learning and Robotics: Which One Works Better?

In an arti9cle published in the July 17 issue of the journal Science it was said that social robots may actually have more to teach us than normal teachers. Social robots are bots that are equipped with certain skills and abilities which may be used to teach toddlers language, activities and others. This sort of machine learning borrows from cognitive neuroscience, artificial intelligence, robotics, and psychology. Learning when toddler, between 0 to 5 years of age is apparently effortless and exuberant.

During this period is when machine learning works the best. Research at the University of Washington Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences showed that social learning is more important than anything else because children learn from watching TV or interacting or imitating adults.

This can be replaced with social robots. However, robots may not replace teachers altogether and robot teachers would be used only for teaching specific skills. Thus, robots may not actually replace teachers but would complement them in the process of teaching and helping children learn.
