The hunt for energy in the world is endless. With the demand on a continuous rise, man is busy figuring out ways to use everything around him to give him power. In the run, sometimes we fail to notice how powerful the resources we already have are and go on a blind quest for something new. James May seems to be an exception.
An introduction with the solar furnace forced James May to think about the tremendous energy sun possesses and the ways to use it. Solar furnaces which concentrate sun rays to a focal point can attain temperatures as high as 3,000 degrees Celsius. This temperature has so far been used only to generate electricity and produce hydrogen fuel, but no one has ever thought that at such high temperatures steel can liquefy instantly.
Solar energy can now probably be used in every industry that demands high temperatures. With the world trying to shift focus on to renewable energy, this should be good news.
