14 year old David Nixon wasn’t interested in making a volcano for his school project like most other kids would have thought of doing; what he made is a street legal quadricycle that is as cool as it looks.
The three seater quadricycle was made with a ZEM (Zero Emission Machine) picked off eBay for $5,000 and the rest of the parts cost about $1,400. Powered with a 24 volt motor, the 1hp quadricycle can hit a top speed of 14mph, which isn’t too bad when you consider the fact that you can pedal this to school without asking dad for a ride. The Solar Human Hybrid (SOHH) is also powered via the GreenSaver Silicone Gel Cell batteries connected to 20 watt solar panels. No teenager, even one cool enough to build his own raging road machine, can live without music so it’s no wonder that the batteries also power an iPod dock as well as a GPS unit and the cycle lights.
David and his father hope the SOHH inspires others to build more vehicles like this, perhaps even mass produce them. They are even offering instructions on their website for a recreation of the SOHH.
