It takes a brave man to conjure up and create a plane that flies across the globe only on solar power and it takes a set of bolder pilots to actually be willing to take this adventures wing span into upper altitude. Unveiled in Switzerland, Solar Impulse has set its aim on becoming the very first completely solar-powered flight to make a trip around the globe. Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg, who are going to be the pilots for this groundbreaking venture, are more than optimistic of their chances.
With the large plane that has a wing span akin to a Boeing 747 only weighs as much as a small car, its ultra-light and compact build ensures that you get the maximum out of its solar batteries. While the Impulse cannot fly in bad weather and is not slated for the adventure across the globe till 2012, its designers and pilots are highly optimistic of it being a real torch bearer for the future of solar technology.
