Soldiers Killed in Northern Ireland, Terrorism Revisits After a Decade

Northern Ireland has been the single most troubled region in the United Kingdom. There had been a lull of many years after gruesome violence and bombings by IRA terrorists. Two soldiers were killed last night and is the first major terrorist attack in more than a decade.

The killings bring back fears of a violent future in Northern Ireland where hundred have lost their lives and limbs due to IRA’s terrorist attacks. Gordon Brown condemned the attack is being cowardly. IRA is known to have forged links with ETA in the Basque country and this could have dangerous consequences in Europe. Spain and the United Kingdom must work together to quell any signs of reoccurrences of a bloody past.

The attack occurred 16 miles away from Belfast and has already sent shivers down the spines of residents and also those in mainland U.K. It is only a matter of time that one may see bombi9ngs in mainland U.K. or even a dastardly attack in the heart of London. Though IRA’s war has been long over, the residual factions may have carried out the attack and it is not clear if it is IRA or some other terrorist faction.
