One of the biggest names in the gaming industry, Sony Corporation that has been well renowned for gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Sony PSP, is now apparently working on a new PlayStation 3 DVR called, PlayTV 2, as per the comments made by the company’s senior producer Mark Green. According to Mr. Green, Sony is currently working on various products and the PlayTV 2 is one of them.

The first of the PlayTV was launched in the year 2008 with a price tag of $156 and it enabled the users to record and play television programming. The PlayTV device was only released in Europe and it still hasn’t made its way to the United States. As the social networking revolution reached a fervor pitch in the last two years, Sony has finally realized the importance of this trend and how it can be equally beneficial in the gaming arena. Hence, the company is also integrating social networking capabilities in the new PlayTV 2, that would also be given Facebook integration.

According to James Thorpe (PlayStation Network Product Manager),

“I don’t want to give too much away and spoil the surprise but a little hint to one of the new features is that PlayTV will have links to the world’s most popular social network site, Facebook. Other great enhancements to PlayTV and brand new features will also be included in the update.”
