One of the biggest and the hottest names in today’s gaming culture, Sony PlayStation 3 is said to be well on its way of beating the competition and could emerge with some of biggest sales among its competitors in the near future. As per the report released by Strategic Analysts, so far the PS3 is lacking the numbers that, it needs to top the gaming consoles, still this immensely popular device is believed to have a long life span than that of the current top gaming console, Nintendo Wii.
The report titled, “Taming the Waves: Games Console Life Cycles and Platform Competition,” states that, the Sony PlayStation 3 has the capability of surviving as a commercial platform, five years from now, a time by which the Wii would have been replaced. Keeping into consideration the predicted longevity of the PS3, the analysts are fairly certain that, the console will be able to achieve a sales milestone of 127 million units, whereas the Nintendo Wii would have to settle for a sales total of 103 million units.
One of the primary reasons for such a prediction by the analysts is the fact that, users now view their consoles as more than just gaming devices. Instead, there is a growing demand for multi-functions on gaming devices, including the highly profitable social networking spectrum. With the recent announcement by Sony, wherein an update has been scheduled for the PS3, that would enable the device to be compatible with the 3D revolution, that is to begin from June this year, the popularity of Sony PlayStation 3 is bound to sky rocket.
