
One of the hottest selling and widely acclaimed gaming consoles, Sony’s PlayStation 3 is all set to receive an critical update from the company, that has been designed specifically for the PS3 and will enable the device to be compatible with the all new range of Full HD 3D TVs and also with the soon to be launched 3D television programming.
As per Sony Corporation, there would be no requirements for any additional hardware to be paired with the PS3 for the 3D services, as the device is already complimented with a HDMI port and is powered by the Cell processor. The PS3 will only be required to connect to the internet
and receive an over the air update, that would automatically switch on the 3D features built in the hardware of the device.
The Cell processors, also known as the Cell Broadband Engine have been designed specifically to create an easy bond between conventional processors such as Athlon 64, and Core 2 families with some of the most state of the art graphic processors, such as that from NVIDIA and ATI. The Cell processors have been engineered to provide the best in digital distribution system, especially when it comes to high definition displays and entertainment.
In the month of December last year, Sony had decided to launch stereoscopic 3D games titles for PS3 and had mentioned that, this new line of games will be mirrored with the launch of the Sony 3D TV, that is slated for this year. Furthermore, the company also plans to be more friendly towards developers and publishers, as Sony will be assisting the developers with technical information, that would enable them to create more vibrant and interactive 3D games.
Accoridng to Nainan Shah (V.P, Planning & Development, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe),
“PS3 users worldwide will only need to upgrade the PS3 system software via the internet and there is no need to repurchase the system to enjoy 3D games.”
