If all goes well Sony will sell 3D televisions across the world by the end of 2010. In the recent Sony’s press conference, Howard Stringer, the CEO of the company is believed to have announced that 3D will soon reach out to the mass market via technology, distribution and content.
At the IFA trade show, Stringer said that it won’t be just televisions that will be made 3D but Vaios, PS3s, and the company’s Blu-ray players would be also made 3D compatible. However, the company has not yet come to consensus on a standard format for 3D. As of now, they are considering various options such as, Sony’s active shutter tech, 3D polarisation glasses, and also a non-glasses version.
Nothing is certain just yet with regard to which of the options will be considered. However, the polarisation glasses seems to be the favored choice. The price tags too haven’t been fixed yet. Apparently, 3DTVs from Hyundai cost more than £3000. So, I am assuming that it will be somewhere near this price. I hope Sony sobers down a tad on the price tags.
