Sony Readers PRS-300 and PRS-600 received a lot of attention when Sony announced the release for the end of last month, along with the leaked pictures of the two gadgets that had been making the rounds on blogs. Now that eager consumers have landed their hands on them, reviews have been pouring in and it sounds as though the readers are as good as they were touted to be.
The Sony Touch Edition (PRS-600) doesn’t come with a software CD but includes installation files on the reader itself. Using the reader is easy, whether by finger or stylus, but some people complain about the slight loss of clarity of the screen. With 5 different font sixes available though, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Both DRM and DRM-free digi-book formats are supported by the reader and the battery life is 7500 pages. Extra memory can be attained with an SD card or a Memory Stick Pro Duo Card (up to 16 GB each).
The Touch Edition also has a faster processor and a dictionary. Plus, the handwriting mode should surely appeal to everyone. The sleek reader looks great and is small enough o be carried everywhere. The Sony Touch Edition is $300.
