As you read this text, billions of useless emails clog Internet traffic and filled mailboxes around the world. They make millions of Internet users waste valuable time deleting unwanted messages and delay legitimate communications.

Boredom, reduced productivity, loss of time: it is spam, the scourge that reaches all countries, and growing a breakneck speed. It’s a war and seems far from over. However, at least when it comes to compensation for spam, Facebook surpasses MySpace comfortably.

Right now, the social network has been awarded $ 711 million in damages against a man known as King of Spam who used a phishing scheme to get access to user accounts, according to Facebook’s PR team. Court records show the judgment is actually a bit of a letdown for the social network, which had initially asked the court for $ 7.5 billion in damages, the judge denied the request, saying it was not “proportionate” to the man’s offense.

The condemnation came for breach of the terms of use of Facebook, using information implausibility, illegal propaganda and a series of crimes related to this triad. Hardly, the network will charge the entire amount, since no spammer can so many millions in his office, however, should serve as a measure of warning to other malicious Internet users.

No estimates of the prison sentence, officials, agents or any person related to the activity of convicted spammer can not, under any circumstances, use data, information, computers and accounts linked to Facebook.
