Like they say, it’s always cheaper to learn from the mistakes of others where you have to pay no heavy price. Facebook, the social networking site won $873 million judgment against Canadian spammer Adam Guerbuez who had posted spam messages with explicit sexual content.
According to the sources in Facebook, the spammer illegally acquired the user name and passwords of the people on a popular site on Facebook. After this initial trickery, Guerbuez accessed the user’s profiles and sent spam messages to almost 4 million people promoting several products. Guerbuez had been untraceable ever since he was sued four months ago and wasn’t available for comment either.
Indeed, Facebook has been successful in sending a strong signal to warn other potential spammers who could be lurking somewhere out there. This is a rather responsible step by this California based company to protect its more than 120 million users.
Of course, we as avid users of Facebook could feel a bit more secure. However, the experts opine that with the current available technology, Facebook may not be able to fully eradicate this problem. However, as long as the effect of this multi million suit lasts, all is fine and the users can heave a sigh of relief.
