One of the busiest airport terminals in the Unites States, the Denver International Airport (DIA) is all set for a massive and gorgeous makeover, as respected Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava has now unveiled his new designs for a proposed state of the art railway network for the DIA, as part of the South Terminal Redevelopment Program. The all new plans from Santiago envision a rail network, originating from downtown Denver with the final destination being the Denver International Airport, along with a hotel, a retail plaza and a rail bridge over Pena Boulevard.
The whole purpose of creating the new rail network for the Denver International Airport is to bring it closer to the city and to provide the DIA with enhanced facilities. The proposed rail network will connect DIA with Denver at Union Station with a FasTrack line terminating at Calatrava’s new arched transit station. The hotel for the DIA is a twin towered installation with 500 bedrooms, that serve as a much welcomed relief for the passengers, who had to make their way to off site hotels, just to spend one night. The ceilings of the train station will be designed to be translucent, so as to bring in natural light.
According to Santiago Calatrava,
“We have given our best to create a dialogue between the two buildings in a complementary basis to respect the iconic view of the tent.”
