Pop culture has loosely been based on age differences and programmes on the TV has almost always been exclusively directed at specific target audiences. Nickelodeon has aired programmes for children and adolescents that have been interestingly watched by adults as well. One such programme is the SpongeBob SquarePants which recently turned 10 years old.

What’s more, in order to celebrate SpongeBob’s 10th anniversary, VH1 is going to be airing a documentary this Tuesday. It is one of the most popular animated movies and is directed at 2-11 year olds, though many adults enjoy watching the programme too. The show is aired in 25 International languages and even creator Stephen Hillenburg has admitted he never thought his little sponge would be so popular and famous.

This leads to the conclusion that pop culture and what becomes part of the mainstream, originally intended for a cult can’t really be predicted and can be surprisingly unexpected. If you are a fan of SpongeBob, do not miss the documentary on VH1 and also, if you are not really fond of the TV show, you could still watch it from a critical point of view.
