Sri Lankan armed forces are making in roads into Tamil Tigers stronghold areas. Tamil Tigers have claimed that more that 250,000 civilians who want to live in rebel zones are seriously affected by the conflict. UN aid agency (UNICEF) has further claimed young children are mainly caught in the crossfire which is either killing them or injuring them seriously.
This small vital information about state of children is not going to deter the government neither it is going to tame the rebels. The ceasefire is not even an option anymore. The fate of young children remains uncertain. Some of them are just few months old. UN insists safe areas such as school and medical facilities be protected. UK has doubled its emergency aid to protect civilians. But Sri Lankan government has preferred to ignore and deny the numbers.
Sad violent deaths, mutilated bodies and souls of children are a reality of any war. But yet armed conflicts for land continue abated in all parts of the globe. Gross human and child rights violations continue. Ironically for the sake of political future the future generations are being systematically desensitized and killed.
