State Of The Art Electromagnetic Pulse Cannon Will Stop A Car Dead In Its Tracks

One of the biggest challenges for the law enforcement agencies around the world and the military personnel manning a vehicle check point is to stop an oncoming high speed vehicle, with an occupant that does not intend to stop to nor does he wish to cooperate with the personnel. Apart from the spike strips or a sniper putting a bullet in to the engine block, there seems to be no other alternative. However, all this is about to change, Eureka Aerospace, a Canadian company has announced that, it is currently working on an electromagnetic pulse cannon, that could prove to the most effective non-lethal and extremely safe car stopper in the world.

The electromagnetic pulse cannon consists of a suitcase size antennae and can disable the electronics of a vehicle from over 656 feet away. However, the weapon will be effective only on the cars that have micro processors and electronic components for their operations. The applications of this one of a kind disabling device are endless and the U.S Air Force has reportedly contacted the company in regards to an airborne variant of the weapon, so that it can disable hostile vehicles on the ground, without harming the occupants.

In its interaction with Eureka Aerospace, U.S Air Force stated,

“The Air Force Air Armament Center (AAC), 308th Armament Systems Wing, Rapid Acquisition Cell is seeking information that could lead to development of an air-delivered capability to disable moving ground vehicles while minimizing harm to occupants. Development schedule is expected to be a critical factor in any potential development effort, so responses should focus on feasibility and maturity of the key technologies. Responses should include candidate integration concepts which take maximum advantage of existing infrastructure in order to minimize cost and development time.”
