Growing up I learnt that there are only two instances when men can become so engrossed in what they’re doing that even natural disasters cannot get their attention. The first is when they are watching football and the second is when they’re playing chess. Don’t get me wrong, I love chess but as a two-player game it was often difficult to get in on the fun.
The Straight Up Chess Board eliminates the only disadvantage of the great game and lets everyone join in the pleasure. Unlike traditional chessboards, this one sits up straight, vertically, attached to a wall with each row separated by a transparent floor upon which the chess pieces sit. Start a game of chess as you pass by the board and make a thoughtful move and mark it with the provided ‘Last Move’ marker. Anyone else who passes by the board after you would then be free to make the next move. Once you catch sight of the King, you can mark your move with the ‘Check’ marker.
The Straight Up Chess Boards are available in a variety of appealing series (Red Cherry, Black Maple, Dark Walnut, etc.) with intricate detailing that carries a touch of antiquity. The boards are designed for 3” chess sets but boards for chess sets between 1 ½” to 3 ¼” are also available. Even if you don’t desire to put this up in your office and involve everyone in a game of chess, it would be perfect to display your best chess pieces. Prices range from $100-$250.

Just for the record, this board was designed for two people to play a casual game of chess over a day or several days. Not that couldn’t be played as mentioned above by a group of players.

The idea that I could interfere in a game of chess was so appealing that I couldn’t help myself from speaking of it as multi-player game! Hey, you made it possible for a group of people to show off their expertise in one game of chess. It’s an awesome design, anyway, whether for two or more players. Thanks, Steve!
