Strong earthquake shakes Tokyo area

An earthquake of 6,9 degrees in the Richter scale reached the area of Tokyo and the neighboring provinces today, but there are no information on victims or material damages, nor the tsunami alert was activated.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Pacific Ocean, to the south of the area of Tokaido and it was felt with plenty intensity in the Japanese capital and in the provinces of Chiba, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Saitama, according to Japan Meteorological Agency.

In Tokyo it was not informed of material damages of importance nor of victims.

The area that the earthquake reached with more force is one of the most populated of Japan, where the constructions are projected to support tremors similar to the registered today, due to the frequency in that happen earthquakes.

On August 5, an earthquake of 6,5 degrees reached the archipelago of Okinawa, in the south of Japan, without causing damages, but other tremors of 6,9 degrees left died in some previous occasions.

There was not none alerts previous to the earthquake, according to the meteorological services, but the circulation of some high-speed trains were interrupted in the Japanese capital by several hours for problems in the electric power supply.
