A suicide bomber from the Pakistan Taliban, today targeted a main air force research and maintenance facility in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. The suicide attack killed six people, including two soldiers and four civilians.
The suicide bomber detonated the explosives wrapped around him, around the time when he was stopped at a checkpoint for security inspection. The attack was focused on the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, located 75 kilometers from the capital city of Islamabad.
The almost everyday terror strikes are in response to the Pakistani military’s massive offensive currently underway in the South Waziristan region to root our the militant forces that have made the region their safe haven and a breeding ground for recruitment and training of militants. Today’s attack on a military establishment came just a day after the militants had gunned down a Pakistani army Brigadier and his driver. The militants have already declared Pakistan as a war zone and all citizens as combatants. These highly coordinated and lethal strikes against the Pakistani infrastructure is believed to be aimed at weakening the people and the government, so that the military operations in FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) can be ceased,.
The current volatile situation in Pakistan has also taken its toll on the share markets as the KSE index fell 3 percent and more and more investors are reluctant to invest in the now unstable region.
Also, so far whatever claims have been made by the Pakistani military haven’t been confirmed by independent sources, as domestic and international journalists haven’t been given access to the region, due to major security concerns.
