An extremely powerful drug used for surgical anesthesia, Propofol, was found in the home of Michael Jackson after his death. This medicine is strictly issued to medical personnel alone. Authorities are wondering how Jackson was able to possess such a drug. An unidentified information source said, “It is inconceivable that such a drug is prescribed for home use.”
According to the source, one of the main side effects of Propofol is cardiac arrest, if taken together with narcotic painkillers. However, Propofol is so powerful that it can cause a heart attack by itself.
A registered nurse, Cherilyn Lee, earlier told CNN that the pop star had begged her to for Diprivan, the generic name of Propofol. He told her that he needed it to cure his insomnia. The nurse declined Jackson’s request.
Medical authorities admit that ‘if a doctor facilitated it for Jackson, he or she could be prosecuted for manslaughter.’
Propofol ‘can only be administered with an IV.’ It also burns. To reduce the pain of injection, another drug, Lidocaine, is used. In earlier reports, Lidocaine was found near Jackson’s body.
There have been reports about the abuse of Propofol as a recreational drug. Propofol’s sedative action presumably produces euphoric effects. Several deaths have been recorded related to the administration of the drug without proper monitoring.
Several friends and relatives of Michael Jackson claimed that the singer had easy access to prescription drugs and that they may have played a role in his death last Thursday.
