As the source code of the operating system is opened and anybody can modify it, the number of distributions is enormous. Formerly, who wanted to create a new Linux distribution had to study a lot the system of files, operation of the kernel, configuration of the graphic interface and initialization systems.

That learning process gave a great jump with the creation of distributions customizable, as Gentoo and projects as Linux From Scratch, that allows, through an itinerary very well elaborated, the creation of a new system. The following step was the creation of installers of the type Live CD, that propitiated the appearance of applications for customization, before the installation in the disk. It is possible until creating a Live CD starting from a system installed already.

Now, with operating systems turning for the browser, nothing fairer than appear sites that allow to create distributions online. It is in that wave that Novell embarked, with SUSE Studio release. The idea is not new, but t has a degree of convincing maturity. It is possible until creating a ready Linux to assume the server (appliance) function. For instance, a LAMP with WordPress installed, having OpenSuSE 11.1 as base.

For the time being, SUSE Studio site only allows the invited users’ registration.
