It seems that, swine flu isn’t only making the people go off the edge, it has also gotten the World Health Organization in a fix. According to the latest reports, WHO is having a very difficult time in allocating its resources to the pandemic, as it is one of the fastest spreading illness the organization has ever witnessed.
As per the comments from various officials from the WHO, the pandemic is so widespread that it has become an almost impossible task to count every reported case. Due to the increasing reported cases of swine flu across the globe, WHO had recently revised its guidelines and had instructed the authorities to classify and report only about the mass cases and not the individual ones.
In a statement, the World Health Organization said,
“The 2009 influenza pandemic has spread internationally with unprecedented speed. In past pandemics, influenza viruses have needed more than six months to spread as widely as the new H1N1 virus has spread in less than six weeks.”
According to many health officials, the swine flu pandemic has over a million people infected and in its own the WHO has termed it as an “unstoppable” pandemic.
“Signals to be vigilant for include spikes in rates of absenteeism from schools or workplaces, or a more severe disease pattern, as suggested by, for example, a surge in emergency department visits,” WHO said.
