So far, we’ve seen umpteen solar panels coming up that would either generate electricity from the sunlight or those that heat the water, but the one that could perform both the jobs wasn’t seen. Entech Solar has built up a new solar panel that proves to be a breakthrough in solar technology.

Entech Solar’s PVT (Photovoltaic Thermal) is a new type of solar panel that can not only produce electricity but can also heat water. The panel features a Fresnel lens that has the ability to concentrate 20-x sunlight onto silicon solar cells, heating a pipe with water in it at the same time. Estimated to cost around $6-$7 per watt, the PVT systems wouldn’t be available for residential utilization, but the industrial and commercial market would surely benefit from it.

This all-in-one solar panel looks promising because it’s tending to two energy needs with the same surface area as a conventional panel. Though the setbacks of the device cannot be commented upon right now, I wish it clicks with the market as it would be a boost for the solar industry to come up with newer green technologies for cleaner energy generation and utilization.
