ASUS is the first manufacturer to market a motherboard compatible with the new USB 3.0 standard. According to the website The Register, the P7P55D-E is compatible with the new Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 and features two integrated USB 3.0 ports, plus 10 other USB 2.0 ports and a SATA controller can transfer data at up to 6 GB / s.

Developed by Intel, USB 3.0 promises to transfer data at high speed from external devices and PCs In theory, the maximum transfer speed is 5 Gigabit (640 MB) per second, compared to 480 Megabit / s of the current USB 2.0. USB 3.0 controllers are also compatible with current USB 2.0 peripherals and 1.0 present.

A few months ago, information about other ASUS, the P6X58 Premium, circulated online, claiming that this was the first motherboard USB 3.0 market. However, although it has made several appearances at trade shows, it never went on sale. Therefore, the title is for the P7P55D-E.

The chipsets in P7P55D-E (Intel P55 Express) do not natively support USB 3.0, then the ASUS add an extra chip, a driver from NEC, to the board. The company also plans to launch an “upgrade kit” for another of your motherboard, the P7P55D, which adds USB 3.0 and SATA 6 Gb / s, effectively turning it into a P7P55D-E.

For now, only the operating system already that has support for USB 3.0 is Linux. Price and release date for both the motherboard and to the expansion, were not defined.

According to a report published in the London Times, Asus, a Taiwanese company is soon to come up with their eReader called the ‘Eee Reader”. If the report is true, then Asus will provide two versions of their e-book, of which one will be the cheapest in the market, while the other one will also be relatively cheap. Besides the cheap price, Asus is also creating a book like e-Reader complete with hinged spine, like a printed book.

This will enable the readers to read an ebook much like the same they read a normal book. The users can use the touchscreen to turn the pages. If you wish to use the device as a laptop, then you can do so as it has one of its touchscreens that functions like a keypad. Asus will be available in full color.

It may also come with speakers, a webcam and a microphone for Skype so that you can use cheap phone calls on the internet. Asus also claims that its ebook reader will be much cleverer and more versatile than the current ones available from Sony and Amazon. According to Jerry Shen, the President of the company, their Eee Reader will be available by the end of this year.

Asus has made some fine netbooks and given competition to al lot of top brands but it appears that their desire to delve into new markets it quite strong. Asus may soon be releasing an Eee branded e-book reader. Though netbooks, like the Eee, had been considered as a solution for e-book reading, this had not been done earlier.

DigiTimes stated that Asustek Computer president Jerry Shen revealed that Asus would be coming out with the Eee branded e-book reader by the end of this year. Although no other details are available at this point, it already appears that Asus would have a strong contender in the e-book reader market since Micro-Star International (MSI) may also be making a foray into the market at the same time.

Since demand for e-book readers are higher in Europe and North American countries and is relative low in Asian countries, these ventures would most probably be made available only in these markets. Even though the competition amongst e-book reader manufacturers isn’t very high, Asus would definitely aim to capture the market from the moment of its arrival as the company has been used to doing so.

Gadget mixes Wi-Fi gateway router, open source software, and hardware made in home to leave his creator informed about the last innovations in Twitter.

It seems that the new fashion among the hackers is to find exotic forms of verifying the most recent messages in Twitter. First, we had a “electric carbon typewriter”. Then, a customer for Commodore 64, a computer of the 80’s. And now we have Tweetser.

The apparel is based on a Wi-Fi gateway router, an ASUS w520-gU, modified to use OpenWRT, a Open Source firmware based on Linux.

Meanwhile, OpenWRT needs a Python interpreter, that executes the Twitter client which download the 20 more recent messages, using the Wi-Fi connection, and it exhibits them in a display with two lines of 16 characters, linked to a serial door of the Wi-Fi gateway router.

The project was created by David Nichols, that put a gallery of pictures in Flickr, although with few more technical details. The LCD display is a Sparkfun Electronics, model that costs about of US$ 24,95 in the USA.

The question now is: who will be the first to connect a potato to a Twitter account?

Samsung announced this week that doesn’t intend to throw netbooks with the operating system of Google, Android. In interview to the site Mobinuate=, David Eberlé, director of Telecom of Samsung France, said that there is no forecast for that to happen.

The site Samsunghub sees the position of the company as a movement to check the receptivity and to test the potential of their products before doing agreements to involve other marks, differently that happens with Acer, that is working in equipments with the new operating system.

Recently, Asus interrupted the production of a new model of Eee PC with Android. The given justification is that the technology of the project is not still totally ripened, besides not being a priority of the development team.

It is worth to remind that the first netbooks was based on variants of Linux, but today the market is dominated by Microsoft: 96% of the netbooks go out of factory with some version of Windows installed. Android, that is also based on Linux, can balance the scale.

Recently, Google announced Chrome THE, a new system destined to the netbooks that it should be ready in one year. That that turns the company, that had never had experience in the production of operating systems, responsible for two of them, quite different in spite of they be both based on Linux.

Asus had created quite a lot of news with its concept Laptop Fold/Unfold. Now it has created even more news by revealing that they intend to change to concept into in real product.

Asus’ CEO Jerry Shen stated in an interview with TechRadar that the Asus fold/Unfold would be commercially available from September/October of this year. One of the main features of the laptop is to offer maximum keyboard space. The keyboard of the Fold/Unfold notebook slides backwards as it opens increasing the amount of space for the keys, trackpad and palm rest. Jerry Shen reveals that the notebook would be available in the range between $1000 and $15000. The Fold/Unfold is expected to create more media attention than the Macbook by Apple when it launched about two years ago.

Jerry Shen also spoke about the other products Asus is planning on launching soon including the Wii-like Eee Box which they refer to as Eee TV because it can connected to a TV via HDMI. The other product which he spoke about is the wireless Eee Keyboard which uses 30GHz Miniwave technology and offers HD output.

Asus has unveiled a brand new nettop called the Eee Top: The ET2203 and also the ET2003. The nettops come with awesome touch screen and they have a large screen of 22 and 20 inches respectively. The nettops will also be equipped iwth a Blu-ray integrated TV tuner, an HDMI port, mouse and also the much required wireless keyboard so that you can turn this in to a sort of home entertainment device.

The price and the availability is not known and we also don’t know the detailed specifications. It can also work like a PC and hence I would say, instead of wasting money on something else, you could try and buy this when it arrives in the market.

The nettop also looks shiny and stylish, which is very important. It can work like a media center too, and will combine the utilities of audio, video and internet. Go ahead and make the most of it when you can, and do buy it the moment it arrives.

CES 2009 is coming to a close but the onslaught of products seem to be relentless. Asus is going to reveal yet another Eee Keyboard which comes with a 5 inch touchscreen and surprisingly, it will also have a 32GB SSD. This keyboard can be used for wireless media centre device and you can explore the multimedia features very easily.

The Keyboard comes with a port to connect the TV and turn it into a monitor and the high speed HDMI connection will only make your browsing easier and more enjoyable than ever. The Eee keyboard also comes with Intel Atom N270/N330 CPU and supports a memory of 1GB DDR2. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are some of its other features.

Asus Eee PC 1004DN comes with a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a fingerprint reader, a card reader VGA connector, ExpressCard, Ethernet and USB 2.0 (x3). The outstanding feature of this product is its processor, the 1004DN Atom N280, in addition to the 1GB RAM and operating system Windows XP Home. However, the frequency of the N280 is not revealed yet but it should definitely be better than N270. It also has a powerful chipset, which will enhance the performance.

At this point of time it is not certain if Asus will find a large audience. So, let’s wait and watch and let its performance justify the abundant features. In my opinion, the Asus will find market in the entry level purchasers due to the usual low prices but bigwigs may compete with higher end models.

CES 2009 saw Asus come up with many new products including Eee PC Asus D200 is a new mini PC which is illustrious from every angle. It runs on Intel Atom N270 and comes with a cool 2GB RAM. It is also small and clean looking with sleek lines and curves.

The D200 comes with two 3.5″ HDD slots and will have space for up to 4TB. It will have a 3.5″ touchscreen and can be used to download music, watch movies, browse net and almost anything that you would want to do. The Eee PC D200 will be available from Marc and will cost $600.

Looks like we will have a cool new mini PC that has awesome specs and features. Wonder what else Asus has in store for us, for I am sure the company has a secret agenda to be the king of mini computer industry, which they have almost achieved already.
