Thousands of refugees are arriving in Kolkata from Sunderbans islands. Aila cyclone and flooding has washed away their homes and interior islands have received absolutely no relief from the government and other agencies. There is acute shortage of drinking water and food. Areas have no electricity.

How often does one come across relief camps post-disasters and wish something better was done for the hapless victims? Disasters may be man-made or nature’s fury, but managing post-disaster situations, particularly shelters, is in human hands, and can be improved a great deal with some innovation besides spot thinking.
