According to Amnesty International, 1,718 people were executed in China in 2008. At least 7,003 face the death sentence. In a secretive regime such as China, nobody really knows if these figures are accurate. Most of these executions were done through the firing squad. A Chinese sentenced to death for having killed six police in Shanghai was executed on the morning of Wednesday, reported the state news agency Xinhua.
The young Yang Jia, 28, a native of Beijing, was arrested in July, after invading a police station in Shanghai and stab the police in a crime that has gained wide coverage in the press in the country.
