Kamiya Design’s new Table, translates literally into one. The Capital T of the word Table is the actual table, while the a, b, and l stuck with e in small letters, could double up as chairs.

It is worth fixing in a kid’s room. But it is really amazing how it could fit in anywhere near an office space, because, it is not just that the letters look a little out of place for a real table and chair design, but also that they come in attractive colours you may not want in an office interior unless out-of-box becomes your buzzword for furniture.

By the standards used in making this Table and Chair set, one should have a sofa shaped in the form of S, O, F, A and bed shaped in exactly the way the word spells. It is anyone’s guess how comfortable such furniture can be in terms of actual use. It is creative nevertheless. An ad-maker may like it in all probability.

Gaëtan Van de Wyer has designed the “Bulb” which is a queer design that surpasses all your imaginations. It is an indoor chair that can be used as a LED lamp, and that which would not just illuminate your living space but also make you look cool in front of your guests.

It is made of green and sustainable materials like water hyacinth, rattan, and has a natural colour that exudes style and chicness.

The chair looks more like an alien device than a piece of furniture and that is perhaps what makes it so attractive. Moreover, if you have the habit of reading books for a long time, the LED light on the top would help you to stop creasing your eyes and minimize eye strain which can wreak havoc on your vision.

The furniture piece can be bought easily and you would have to place an order. There is no information available about the price but you really should not be thinking about price when it comes to cool designs such as this.

Since centuries ago women’s beauty and sensuality have been celebrated the world over in many different ways; be it in the form of paintings, sculptures, architecture, furniture, so on and so forth. This time the paradigm has been shifted from ‘women’ to ‘men’.

Samal Design, a popular Paris based design studio has come up with their new line of furniture collection called “Human Furniture” that celebrates men’s beauty and sensuality. All the furniture in this collection display men’s semi-naked body, some of which show the upper body and some other the lower body. There definitely is a sexual connotation involved with this collection. Although many men may find it difficult to digest or to even give a second glance, women perhaps will like this collection. For once women can also have the freedom to celebrate men’s beauty. Time has changed so has the gender roles (although gradually).

The furniture is realized in MDF and plastic with metal structure inside for support. This collection is really nice and, in addition to celebrating men’s beauty and sensuality, the creativity that Samal Design has brought out with this collection should also be celebrated equally.

Most of us are so used to the wood and steel structures that we see overdone, that we however think it impossible. Aznom’s Black Widow table on the other hand, has been inspired by race cars technology and materials used to make it are such too.

What’s more? It looks aesthetic and appealing too, though it has an ultra-modern industrial feel to it. Its core structural carbon beam holds up the aluminium legs, which are derived from and made from a single piece of aluminium. Carbon fibre covers the lower halves of each leg. It looks fragile, because of the thin frame materials that hold it. But is really strong because of the nature of these materials.

The glass surface on top of the frame shows the complex design involved. The whole design reminds you of a race car for that matter. The table was constructed apparently with speed and mobility in mind. Aznom is a luxury design, manufacturing and marketing firm.

Men have traditionally been associated with hunting, liquor, animals, taxidermy, study tables and other such things. This is mostly due to the societal norms of men having to bring back food from the hunt and also to engage themselves in alcoholic highs after a long day out at work.

While such gender divisions have blurred now and there isn’t any difference among male and female roles, thankfully many men would still like to buy stuff that would remind them of who they really are. The Gentleman’s Room 1953 is one such product where all the elements of a traditional gentleman’s room are brought and placed in the 21st century.

The essence of the room is reinterpreted through the eyes of wild animals and thus you would find stuffed animals while there would be enough space for liquor to be stored, a fireplace for the man to feel warm, place to keep books, stools and such other things. Any man would love to get these accessories in his room, and he could too, if he only contacts the manufacturers. The furniture is made of plate steel, by the way.

Offices spaces aren’t the spacious places that every worker wishes for it to be. Instead, you find yourself sharing working space with a bunch of others making it difficult for the space to hold the required amount of furniture as well.

Designer Thomas Mascall addresses this problem of a cramped working space and came up with a multifunctional chair which can be used as practically any piece of furniture usually found in an office. The Blockseat has stationary folded legs in the midst of which sit a piece of foldable material. It is this piece that folds in or out to take the different shapes. Completely folded in, the Blockseat takes the shape of a stool, unfolding this makes it into a chair and spreading the centre piece out completely turns this into an instant worktable.

The Blockseat can also be used to stored files and other office material. The different shapes that the Blockseat can take makes it the best piece of furniture to have around in a cramped space, so that it can be stored or folded away when not in use.

Furniture is not just about sitting down and giving our derrieres a well deserved rest, nor are they about making a style statement. Though both these points are just as important when it comes to designing furniture, designers often take their creative license far by thinking up something much more.

Alek Shnayder doesn’t really require an introduction, especially not for those who read about his coffee making wonder, the Brew Spout, and have since eagerly waiting for the concept to materialise itself on a store shelf. Alek’s design of the Pion Chair is concentrated on the interaction between the structural mechanical element of the chair and that of the human element. The leather seat and backrest appears to float on its own along the same plane as the chassis giving the sensation that both pieces are disconnected.

The incomplete armrest design would provide for more movement and the backrest would also provide more comfort due to its disconnection from the framework. Chic and simplistic, I would have preferred the Pion Chair without the armrest altogether though!

Furniture plays a vital role in every office. When your office room is surrounded by ugly looking furniture, it somehow puts you off some way or the other. Hence, it’s important to have good furniture around the office. Generally, most offices still use a lot of cumbersome furniture, which are very difficult to be moved from one place to the other in your office. Can Yalman, a renowned Turkish designer has come up with an excellent creation called “Hexa Desk”.

The special feature about this furniture is that it uses carbon fiber and hence, it is naturally light. Both the base and the desk surface are fashioned by carbon fiber.In case you need to move around your furniture, it will be much easier to do so as Hexa Desk is really light as compared to other furniture. It is available at Nurus but the actual price is not yet mentioned.

Considering that it is made of carbon fiber, Hexa Desk may not come cheaply. With ‘Recession’ still playing the spoil sport in most companies today, it’s a tad dicey to opt for this furniture for offices.
