Wildfires which spread through various islands around Athens in Greece are still not entirely under control. There have been no casualties but there has been huge damage to property. More than 20,000 people are homeless and more are being evacuated.

West Bengal and Kolkata have been hit by a strong cyclone Aila. The cyclone is still 50 Km away from the city of Kolkata but the accompanying high winds and storms have already ripped the city apart. The city has almost been brought to standstill by strong stormy winds and heavy rains.

An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude hit Italy early this morning. The epicenter was picturesque town of L’Aquila. Official death toll till now is 50. But roughly nearly 40,000 To 50,000 people have been rendered homeless by this quake and its aftershocks. People are still trapped in the rubble.
