Folks at the Greenpeace have been trying very hard to convince the electronic companies to get rid of toxic chemicals while producing the electronic items. At the CES 2010, Greenpeace has just released their latest edition of the Guide to Greener Electronics, which showed Apple, Sony Ericsson and Nokia as the leading examples of producing chemical free gadgets.

The latest company to join them is HP, which was targeted big time by Greenpeace in 2009 for failing to adhere to the norms of producing chemical free products. The good news is HP has come up with the industry’s first Microsoft Windows based desktop to be free of brominated flame retardants and polyvinyl chloride right from the wall to the mouse itself. This is such a welcome change. On the other hand, Samsung still fails to stick by the rules proposed by Greenpeace.

Apparently, Samsung has imposed January 2011 as the deadline for producing toxic free new models of notebooks and. At present they only have their latest mobile phones as the examples of toxic free products. Interestingly, they haven’t cited any definite deadline of producing toxic free TVs and other household items. I wonder why Samsung is playing such a spoilsport by defying the good rules.

At the Consumer Electronics Show 2010, a joint venture between one of the biggest computer hardware manufacturers, Hewlett Packard and a leading wireless telecommunications R&D firm, Qualcomm Inc. has unveiled the plans for the world’s first smartbook that is powered by a Snapdragon processor and runs on Google Android mobile operating system.

The all new smartbook will be driven by a Snapdragon chipset providing a clock speed of 1Ghz and the machine will greatly benefit from the Scorpion central processing unit. The idea behind this one of a kind concept smartbook is to create a device that has a longer battery life, all the while retaining the crucial aspects of a smartbook, such as wifi connectivity, 3G and a state of the art user interface. HP will be showcasing a demonstration of the technology at the Showstopper event and Pepcom Digital Experience at CES 2010.

Just a while ago we discussed the new line of Ideapads and Thinkpads series notebooks announced by Lenovo for CES 2010 and now we have come to know that even HP (Hewlett Packard), an established and highly reputed name in computer hardware is planning to release a long list of both desktops and laptops at the event.

Apple it seems will be around to give stiff competition to Dell, HP and other computer and software manufacturers since the popularity of one of the oldest hardware entities in the world is roaring at incredible levels. In a recent survey conducted by the technical support company, Rescuecom, Apple Inc. has achieved the top spot in the computer-reliability ranking.

In the first half of the year 2009, Apple had lost the race with Asus and Lenovo as the leading computer manufacturer as against the surveys conducted in 2007 and 2008, where Apple had led the race. However, it has been able to reclaim the prestigious top position once again after achieving a reliability score of 374 in the latest Rescuecom survey. The second and third place were claimed by Lenovo and Asus with scores of 320 and 166, respectively. Hewlett Packard and Toshiba closely followed the top three positions, with them being placed at positions fourth and fifth.

The reliability scores are measured by taking into account the customer support calls received by the companies along with the market share achieved by all the computer hardware vendors in the United States. Inspite of the fact that, Apple’s rating for the third quarter for the year 2009 was significantly behind the 394 rating, Apple has been able to keep up with its so far untarnished reputation.

From home interiors to kitchenware, from automobile designs to graffiti styles, it seems that retro is making a comeback for good and in this case it has carved a new niche for itself in the world of digital calculators. Hewlett Packard recently released a series of three vintage calculators as applications for the apple iphone and copying the HP 12c, HP 12c platinum and HP 15c on the exterior, the new calculators should be a delight to anyone who still loves to get stuck in the 80’s. The design is so retro that barring the HP logo, you would thing this is an old and useless dump.

While the original applications are preserved, when the phone is turned in vertical mode the calculator condenses into a smaller version of the designs and makes its jump into the digital mode on touch of the HP logo. Cool, useful and trendy, the retro design along with iphone adaptability makes it a decent buy indeed!

HP has unveiled the HP Touchsmart which is being touted as one of the best touchscreen PCs around. It comes with all the apps neatly arranged and also, it could be one of the few Touchscreen desktops which look cool, function well and also not exorbitantly priced.

It costs $1500 and it sure is a great desktop and PC but has many shortcomings as described by the writer at YankoDesign. The PC was designed by Randall Martin and you could go ahead and get it for $1,500 which isn’t too bad. It comes with a 22@ display, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, remote control, Web Cam, and runs on Windows Vista. Now this is a drawback as many of us do not like using the Windows Vista.

It also has the GeForce 9300M GS 256 MB DDR2 memory which can prove to be very useful sometimes. The integrated high definition audio will make sure that you will have a great time listening to music wherever you are. All you would need to do is purchase this cool PC as it is a good purchase though it has a few negligible shortcomings.
