A throwback to the vintage: Digital calculators with a retro look!

From home interiors to kitchenware, from automobile designs to graffiti styles, it seems that retro is making a comeback for good and in this case it has carved a new niche for itself in the world of digital calculators. Hewlett Packard recently released a series of three vintage calculators as applications for the apple iphone and copying the HP 12c, HP 12c platinum and HP 15c on the exterior, the new calculators should be a delight to anyone who still loves to get stuck in the 80’s. The design is so retro that barring the HP logo, you would thing this is an old and useless dump.

While the original applications are preserved, when the phone is turned in vertical mode the calculator condenses into a smaller version of the designs and makes its jump into the digital mode on touch of the HP logo. Cool, useful and trendy, the retro design along with iphone adaptability makes it a decent buy indeed!

HP Touchsmart Rocks In Spite of Downsides

HP has unveiled the HP Touchsmart which is being touted as one of the best touchscreen PCs around. It comes with all the apps neatly arranged and also, it could be one of the few Touchscreen desktops which look cool, function well and also not exorbitantly priced.

It costs $1500 and it sure is a great desktop and PC but has many shortcomings as described by the writer at YankoDesign. The PC was designed by Randall Martin and you could go ahead and get it for $1,500 which isn’t too bad. It comes with a 22@ display, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, remote control, Web Cam, and runs on Windows Vista. Now this is a drawback as many of us do not like using the Windows Vista.

It also has the GeForce 9300M GS 256 MB DDR2 memory which can prove to be very useful sometimes. The integrated high definition audio will make sure that you will have a great time listening to music wherever you are. All you would need to do is purchase this cool PC as it is a good purchase though it has a few negligible shortcomings.

HP Enviro Series for Batteries With Three Years Warranty

We have just discovered a series of new laptop batteries from HP Enviro Series. Just in case, you are planning to buy yourself a new battery for your laptop, then you can take a look at these series.

These batteries are based on the latest Boston Power’s Sonata Technology and are available as accessories for 18 Hewlett-Packard notebook models. The batteries come with three years of warranty, which is perhaps three times longer than most of the ordinary notebook computer batteries. Besides, they are also Ecolabel-certified. The battery – Enviro Series NH493AA#ABA – is compatible with the following notebooks: HP Pavilion dv4, dv5, dv6; HP HDX 16; HP G50, G60, G61, G70, G71; and Compaq Presario CQ40, CQ45, CQ50, CQ60, CQ61, CQ70, CQ71.

The batteries are priced at $149.99. They will be available at HP.com later this month as a point of sale option for consumers buying new HP notebooks. This sounds pretty cool to me as I trust HP’s products. In fact, I can’t wait to buy one for my laptop but I would have to wait for few more days in any case.

Why Is Apple Not Greener?

Apple Inc is a very wealthy company — it sold 55 million iPods, 13 million iPhones and nearly 10 million Macs last year. Apple also is one of the most admired brands, both generally and among young people. In fact, Apple has done some good things. It has a good record on product power management. More recently it has improved on electronics recycling after being prodded by groups like As You Sow. The dean of climate change himself, Al Gore is one of Apple’s most prominent board members and fans.

So this fact really beats us. Of the big four IT companies — Apple, Dell, HP, IBM — Apple has disclosed the least information and is the only one that has not made a major commitment to carbon footprint reduction. A recent report by RiskMetrics and CERES focusing on corporate governance and climate change policies scored IBM at 79, Dell 77 and Apple 27. Unlike most companies, Apple does not disclose charitable contributions.

Apple’s iTunes store is the top music retailer in the U.S. Imagine the opportunity to use a tiny piece of that valuable real estate to educate consumers by offering free videos on how to reduce carbom foot-print. How about donating or earmarking 5 percent of its profits to mitigate the environmental impact of its products? Apple, you are one of the most popular and closely watched companies. And you have Al Gore on the board. Either you are doing very little or hurting yourself by not responding adequately about what you are doing on the green front. Whatever it is, buck up!

CES 2009: HP Unveils Mini 2140 Netbook

HP has continued to fuel the craze for netbooks, which was originally started by Sony and Asus. However, HP’s netbook comes with awesome specs and you just cannot ignore it easily. Their latest Mini 2140 Notebook PC was unveiled at the CES 2009 and had the crowds begging for more.

The HP 2140 comes with a 10.1 inch screen and a stylish and sleek aluminium body. This happens to be the only Ultra Mobile PC with a keyboard that is almost the size of a QWERTY keyboard. We shall just have to wait and watch until more is revealed about this cool netbook.

However, I am not sure if the netbook is 3G enabled, but I assume it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It comes with a 80GB hard drive and also the HP 3D Driveguard. The VGA Webcam will only make your video conferencing easier and the WLAN feature is there for sure. It is expected to cost $499 and will be made available this month.

CES 2009: HP Unveils Stylish Computer Peripherals

HP has unveiled one too many products at the CES 2009 and it is always a pleasure to write about gadgets unveiled by companies like HP. The HP App for iPhone was not only cool but it was also extremely functional.

HP unveiled their cool peripherals at the CES 2009 and this included colourful mice with awesome abilities. The mice come in stylish and colourful patterns and cost $30 to $40. The company is also all set to unveil their wireless eco mouse, which is apparently green and clean. 30% of the product is made of recycled materials.

Some other gadgets unveiled by HP was a digital photo frame which plays radio and can sync to Picasa and Flickr. The digital frame will cost $170. All these products will be unveiled in a few months. Let us just wait and watch until then. Patience, they say, is a virtue.

CES 2009: Print directly from Your iPhone!

CES 2009 saw HP unveil their awesome business PC and many other gadgets. They also unveiled a cool new app, which allows you to print directly from your iPhone. The new HP app allows you print any goddamn image you decide is print worthy and you can just have it in hand, hard copy.

Imagine being able to print all those cool images you find when browsing the net on Safari! Well, the app isn’t a totally outlandish one but is definitely functional and will print images of 4 inches and 6 inches. It works just like it is advertised and is sure to gain a multitude of users.

It is available at the App store and is a great way to add more functionality to your cellphone. iPhone had already been a overused and over written topic but now people may find a renewed interest in the product thanks to all these awesome apps available.

CES 2009: HP Unveils TouchSmart Business PC, Attracts Crowds

CES 2009 has till now been very active with a number of products being launched. In fact, for many it has already become tiresome to think about the hundreds of products launched and announced there. This time, HP is in news at the CES 2009 and they have come up with their dx9000 TouchSmart Business PC, which is being touted as the first of its kind.

It enables awesome end user communication and allows social networking to take place very easily. The PC comes with a 22″ LCD screen and you can use the Vista Business OS to work on the computer.

It runs on a Core 2 Dup and has 4GB RAM, and is also very green. It uses very less power and is built using recycled material. The PC is not going to be cheap and will cost around $1399 which is rather ok, if you consider all the business related specs.

HP Announces Gaming PCs

If you had been waiting for the ultimate gaming PCs, well you are close to getting them for HP has broken the secret about their eventual releases. HP announced the launch the Firebird 802 and 803 both of which are VoodooDNA enabled gaming PCS. The systems pack in quad-core CPU and 2MXM graphics cards. HP has taken a step like no other for they will directly be competing against Dell and OEM.

The only problem with the Firebird is the lack of expandability. The prices are expected to hover around $2,000. Looks like they have understood that style is certainly important but price is more important. Apparently, the PCs are also not power hungry and are quite energy efficient making them green and sustainable. The PCs also come with Blu-ray, 4GB RAM, 640GB of storage and many other features.

All this makes Firebird a pleasant surprise and something that many people would look forward to buy. HP certainly has hit the right note among gamers and it may perhaps be only a matter of time before HP starts making in roads into the gaming world and even rule it.
