If you really love nature and want to protect it, you too can turn your old car green like Neil Young did. This legendary rocker who made a special appearance at the Salesforce.com’s Dreamforce conference keynote address has spent $100,000 on his 1959 Mark IV Lincoln Continental to turn it into an electric car with the help of Johnathan Goodwin, who is an expert at it. The car uses both electricity and compressed natural gas as fuels.

LincVolt can run at a speed of 80-160mph with its 150-kilowatt electric motor that has an equivalent of about 500 horsepower. It can be run on the electric motor when driving on urban roads whereas compressed natural gas can fuel your long drives on a freeway. And while the car is running on the compressed gas, a generator recharges the batteries. That way, you need not worry about running out of fuel. Young being an ardent car collector wants to eliminate roadside refueling and probably, this car grants his wish. He also feels that the car can produce enough electricity to power quite a few houses and also electric appliances.

I’m not sure if Young has done it out of his love for environment or whether he just wanted to get rid of the refueling business. Whatever is the reason, his new-old green car gives us a noble suggestion that we can follow to make our own cars green.
