Recycling paper has taken a whole new turn in India with the once famous but now discarded being turned into utility objects that can be carried out by one and all. It seems that a few of the street children in the Indian capital have been rescued from the clutches of poverty and have been provided with a part-time employment scheme in which they recycle old posters of Indian movies into new bags that cane be carried around for shopping. A project initiated by a voluntary organization now aims both at recycling the old waste and also providing a means of living for those on the street.

The bags are also crafted from old newspapers as well and the organization is now looking for suppliers and dealers across the planet to try and sell their products worldwide. While few might question the project as it makes young teens work for their bread and butter, the fact that it both cleans up the planet and provides food and shelter for the homeless is truly commendable. So, next time you come across a newspaper bag, maybe you can pick it up despite the crossword being already filled!

Ever wondered if you could do something cool with all those papers and cardboards in the office or in your house? Ever wanted to create something useful with all that paper-based waste that you generate every day? Well, designer Qianqian Tao has designed the Waste Paper Recycle Trash Bin which mixes all the dumped paper with 668 polyvinyl alcohol environment cement and compresses it.

The compressed trash is actually converted into a trash-bin form. The recycle bin for its part is eco-conscious and comes with touchscreen navigation display and is made of biodegradable materials. There is no information about what kind of power the design might use, or how one could procure the special cement which is required.

Moreover, I also do not understand why anybody would want hundred of trash cans being manufactured every other time there is paper-based garbage. Maybe one could start a side-business selling all the trash cans made of trash from the office stationery or papers from the house. Quite an ingenious idea indeed!

Designer Michael Powers has devised a drafting table that combines all the designing tools together on its touch sensitive surface. So, it is about a touch-screen design table that serves your purpose!

It has a 19 inch monitor, a virtual keyboard and mouse on the touchscreen surface. With built-in speakers, markers, tape, rulers, a digital camera, external hard drive, power strip and paper, the table eliminates the need for those many gadgets and instruments around in your studio or office. You as a designer can load and arrange digital sketches wirelessly on the table. These sketches you can save in folders for future use.

Ideation is possible too with this design table. You may even make a copy of the sketch to edit for on the spot ideation. With the backlit surface, users can give presentations in the daylight. The Multi-function Design Table is perfect if you have a team to work with.
It is flexible. It can bend to become an 81×37″ digital blackboard too, if you have to make that all important presentation to the team.

A new line of eco-paper has come up and creating a big buzz. Well, the paper being manufactured by a Sri-Lankan company Mr. Ellie Pooh  makes it out of elephant poo. And the reason why this paper came into existence is to save the elephant. We know that one tenth of 40,000 Asian elephants live in Sri Lanka and are killed because they interfere with agriculture and are regarded as pests just like the wolves who are are killed by some Americans to save their livestock.

So, Mr. Ellie Pooh took on to himself the task of proving how elephants can be valuable to the economy and not otherwise. And so the eco-paper was made from 75 per cent of elephant dung collected from elephant orphanages across Sri Lanka and 25 per cent all post-consumer waste. Pooh reasons that since an elephant is vegetarian, his waste is high in raw cellulose, which after being cleaned and processed can be converted into a beautifully textured product.

Kudos to the man for coming up with this brilliant and useful idea. The source is dependable because an adult elephant makes 500 pounds of poop in a single day giving us a renewable source of energy. Right now, the poopy paper is being sold at Pixxlz in Massachusetts. Let’s hope its reaches the rest of the world soon enough.

Having a desire to start writing in the middle of a shower can be described as a symptom of a compulsive disorder, which needs to be treated by a more disordered shrink. Well, if you think such a desire does not warrant any psychiatric treatment, you aren’t the only one. The Shower Genius Waterproof Notepad is one such weird product, which comes with 3 refill pads with 25 sheets each.

Using the special ‘Rite in Rain’, which happens to be an all weather writing paper, the pad seems like the likely product a psychotic poet would want to buy. And why not, when a poet needs to jot his/her allegorical thoughts, what better place than under the shower! The device even lets one write fully submerged under the water.

So, it shouldn’t be surprising if the user revealed later that he/she wrote the Pulitzer award winning cr*p in the swimming pool or while playing with oneself in the tub. The weird and almost useless product is available for a price of $14.99. Considering it’s not so expensive, my rant for the last two paragraphs is unwarranted and I might go ahead and buy one for myself.

At first glance nearly everyone out there would get astounded over this headline since nobody would have ever thought of reading or writing to be such a nature savvy experience? Actually it’s an emblematic human propensity that whenever something innovative comes out of someone’s intellect we confer it awfully apprehensive look.

But this time in reality I have come across an exceptionally amazing, risk-free green novelty which would irrefutably be greeted by every single one. As it is an exquisite blend of artistically hip and gratifying green views, it would be acceptable to just about each and every faction of society.

In fact a Brooklyn-based company named “Five and a Half” has initiated a green initiative of practicing maintain able periodicals and journals in the creation of which not even a single tree or a being is debilitated. These long term preservable journals made out of sugar cane trail fibers and used off secondhand paper are apposite for all ink, paint, pastel, charcoal and graphite writing on them.

I guess that this out of box green thinking publicized by “Five and a Half” would soon become a regularized ingredient of our daily lives.
