A new Michael Jackson song, This is It, has made its foray into the internet. After the tragic death of the king of Pop on June 25 at his Los Angeles estate, it is the first new number to hit the online music scenes.

While the controversy and legal quagmire around his death continues to make headlines through the months, and there is also the issue of his children’s custody, fans have been looking forward to anything the star could give them for music. Over the next decade, the star’s story will become history and part-legend too.

The song also becomes the first new single number to get featured in documentary in the making, of the same name This is It. It will now be sent to radio outlets.

The trailer for this documentary was shown at MTV Video Music Awards. And it was soon followed by an online featuring on MySpace.

The song is also out on Michael Jackson’s official website. Reactions by his fans and listeners to the just debuted song have been largely good.

The recently concluded conference on Climate Forcing of Geological and Geomorphological Hazards came up with the conclusion that ‘even slight changes in weather and climate can rip the planet’s crust apart, unleashing the furious might of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and landslides.’

The warning signs have been up: ‘climate change could tip the planet’s delicate balance and unleash a host of geological disasters.’ In fact, the attempts to slow down global warming such as reduction of carbon dioxide emissions cannot stop these catastrophic events. ‘Rock has been found to be sensitive to the air, ice, and water above.’

According to Bill McGuire of the University College London (UCL) who organized the conference, “The changes can be tiny. You don’t need huge changes to trigger responses from the crust.” Scientists have shown that ‘subtle changes in sea level may affect the seismicity of the East Pacific Rise, one of the fastest-spreading plate boundaries.’

David Pyle of the University of Oxford says that ‘small ocean changes can also influence volcanic eruptions.’ He and his university colleagues have been studying the series of volcanic eruptions occurring over the past 300 years. They found that ‘there are around 20 per cent more eruptions worldwide during the northern hemisphere’s winter than the summer. The reason may be that global sea level drops slightly during the northern hemisphere’s winter. Because there is more land in the northern hemisphere, more water is locked up as ice and snow on land than during the southern hemisphere’s winter.’

Various researchers have also ascertained that ‘the vast majority of the world’s most active volcanoes are within a few tens of kilometres of the coast.’ According to Pyle, ‘this suggests the seasonal removal of some of the ocean’s weight at continental margins as sea level drops could be triggering eruptions around the world.’

Despite having sold millions of records and cultivate fans around the world, the Kiss is not yet in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The honor, given annually to artists, producers, composers and even DJs who have contributed to the history of rock, not included in the list of candidates the legendary masked quartet for the prize in 2009.

Gene Simmons complained of exclusion. “There are groups of disco, of rapand Yiddish folk in the Rock Hall of Fame, but not Kiss,” said bassist in this Thursday (20).

“I think we have more disks of gold in America than any other group, but okay,” said the musician.

By had launched its first disc in 1974, Kiss complies with the requirements to enter at the hall as the foundation which promotes the award requires at least 25 years to launch the first single or album for an artist to be nominated.

The Kiss, however, is not on the list of nine competitors this year, which includes Metallica, the guitarist Jeff Beck and the soul singer Bobby Mack (is soul rock’n roll?).

The five honored will be elected by 500 personalities from the music industry and the winner will be announced in January, before the delivery of the prize ceremony on April 4, in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
