The planet may not be hospitable for very long if humans continue to abuse it, the way we have been doing for the past several decades. Taking the eco friendly path has become more than just a safe option or a way to save money, it’s even in style. So, whether you choose to be one of the elite or just someone looking to cut short your power bills, the SolarClover would sure appeal to you.

Created by Armageddon Energy, the SolarClover is a three-leafed power saver that will bring you tons of good luck (at least when it’s time to pay the power bill). The clovers are made of a triangular frame made from a Teflon medium, micro inverter and three lightweight silicon hexagonal solar panels. Setting up each SolarClover would only take a few minutes and the whole thing weighs less than 13 pounds so transferring them from one place to another would be a piece of cake.

Each SolarClover generates about 400 watts which wuld contribute to slashing off a huge amount from the power bills. Forget that, think about how much the environment would be thanking you every minute.

With those clamoring for greener energy options and cleaner energy sources constantly keeping their focus fixed on solar power, there is no doubt that wind energy has taken a back seat for sometime now. But with the help of creative new engineers who are altering the traditional perception of windmills and some help from Mother Nature herself, the Windfarm in Spain has managed to create a record that might be hard to beat for sometime now. With strong winds that battered the Iberian Peninsula, Spain’s huge network of windfarms jointly poured the equivalent of 11 nuclear power stations’ worth of electricity into the national grid. The astounding performance over the weekend saw 53% of total national power being supplied by windfarms alone!

This not only has seen a sudden spurt in interest when it comes to wind energy but has given further boost to many Windfarm projects that are taking shape across the globe. Spain’s officials themselves are hoping to increase the national wind energy output from the current 17Gw to 40 GW by 2020 and that ambition seems all too modest after this weekend’s blitz. Of course, with wind’s fiddle nature, it is always better to be cautious than overconfident… Let’s just hope Spain’s performance is repeated elsewhere as well.

Unleashing the perfect green vehicle on to the roads is the dream of every automaker right now on the planet. There obviously is more reason than one for this very ‘green and clean’ outlook that automobile firms have taken up. Green in terms of the cash they make might also depend on eco-friendly features as we head into a future where fossil fuel is becoming harder to come by with each passing second. EarthSure, a renewable energy company, has officially offered us the first glimpse into its own version of the four-wheeled green carrier of the future with the launch of the AirRay.

Sporting a rood clad with solar honeycomb-membrane panel that is laced seamlessly into the frame of the car and wind turbines on the front which run on the wind flow generated by AirRay’s aerodynamic design, the car can supposedly run on just solar and wind energy; absolutely not a drop of petrol or diesel ever needed. What more, you can even remove its Vehicle to Grid power storage unit and use energy when required at your own home or office.

If you are still imagining a slow, sturdy and clumsy car when we talk about completely emission-free models of the future, then AirRay does away with that misconception as well with its sleek and sexy design and scintillating design that turns heads just like the green energy that turns its wheels over. Its Ferrari-esque look surely has us all floored!

Excessive salt might ruin the taste of your food, but when it comes to solar energy, plenty of salt seems to be very good news- at least for the folk in California. Using a technology that will harness power through the sun and molten-salt, Solar Reserve, a California based solar firm intends to generate power round the clock in a green and clean fashion. The site chosen for this project is Rice, a town in San Bernadino County of California and the planned plant will have a 12-foot pedestal to which a total of 17,500 24 x 28 feet heliostats will be placed surrounding the Solar Power Tower. In a technology that is fast gaining popularity, heat from the sun will be concentrated and used to generate power.

The heat reflected from the vast set of heliostats onto the tower will be used to melt the4.4 million gallons of molten salt on top of the 100 meter tower. This molten salt will drive the attached turbines to generate power and to convert all that solar power into useful electricity. While this is not the first project to use molten salt, SolarReserve claims that their special technique of using synthetic oil along with the salt will make their plant 3-times more efficient than others before it.

So when can we see the plan at Rice operational? If all goes well the California can expect a salty tinge added to their electricity by 2013!

It is called Shelf. And does not mean so literally. But it is a brainwave in favour of the environment. And a great design at that. Designed by Chinese designer Leon Zhu, it is a neat foldable sunshine cover that doubles as rear wing to improve the stability of the vehicle.

But its superb features do not stop there. Shelf harvests the power of the sun. You guessed it. It uses solar power to turn it into electricity, for the functioning of the car’s air-conditioner, tail light and other electronic equipment in the car. When it is not in use, it merely folds up to become a speed stabilizer for the car when it is moving at a high speed.

The design was an entry at Green Life design contest organized by Designboom in collaboration with Incheon Metropolitan City, Korea. Such a design innovation also helps protect the vehicle from the heat of summer while helping make technology greener. Talk about harnessing solar power while on the move! Wonder if something of this sort can be incorporated into the more eco-friendly electric cars too!

It is widely believed by every eco-expert across the globe that fuel cell technology and one that can convert water into hydrogen and use it as a stable fuel, is where the future of green and clean technology lies. With the world running out of fossil fuel at an alarming rate and the efficiency of both wind and solar energy increasing in a trickle, hydrogen fuel cell technology could be the ultimate answer to all our energy needs. The H2Go is a prototype vehicle that is the blue print for those giants that will roam around on the roads of tomorrow.

Designed to reduce drag, increase efficiency and yet maintain a performance output that does not compromise on speed or mileage, the RC prototype vehicle runs on a combination of solar, wind and fuel cell technology. The combination takes the pressure of harnessing energy entirely from one source and hence makes accommodation for back up power even on a rainy and calm day. With its ultra-cool and stylish design and emission-free ride, the H2Go is ideal for urban commuters. One only hopes that such models will one day see daylight!

Waiting for someone is an awful task, especially when there’s nowhere to sit and you are standing alone in the scorching heat of the sun or during a heavy rain or in biting cold, and the person you are waiting for isn’t turning up even after a long time. Each one of us might have faced this problem at some point of our lives. Emir Rifat is surely one amongst us, or else he wouldn’t have come up with the Meeting Point.

Meeting Point is an innovative design that makes waiting far more comfortable. The contented seats outside the compartment are best suited for short length rest. When you need to wait for long hours in bad weather, you can just get into the three-door cubicle and rest on the semi-circular seat. If the thought that you might miss seeing the person you’re waiting for while you are resting is bothering you, Meeting Point has a solution even for that. It has a 360-degree view through its transparent walls so that you can see the person when he arrives.

The solar panel on the top keeps it lighted during hours of darkness and keeps it warm when it’s snowing outside. It might probably make waiting a little easier, but still people have to learn to go on time, isn’t it?

So you own your own great little yacht and yet you feel that there is something missing on that holiday trip when you take it into tranquil blue waters to have a perfect day out? Apart from maybe good company, you might be a tad bit bothered about the eco-impact your fancy little holiday will have on the planet and marine eco-system. Even if you are really not all that bothered, it is still better to go ‘green’ just to brag and have moral high-ground!

Solar Sailor surely looks like a damn good personal yacht that you can brag about to everyone you know not just because we like ‘green gadgets’, but because it amalgamates style with performance, green features with ergonomics and luxury with reduction in carbon footprints. Designed by a team of engineers in Australia, the lavish yacht has solar panels studded on its sail and these panel are programmed to sway with the sun, so to speak (much like a Sunflower farm!)

The concept creation will apparently soon start taking shape and it aims at reducing conventional fuel consumption by 10 percent. So what if the stats are not that great, it looks great, feels great and does its little bit for the planet!

It is no surprise that one of the biggest and probably the most prized billboard spot in the world is going now to a company that is willing to go green with its power supply to light up the ad space and of course is willing to pay around $200,000 each month for the prized spot. Ricoh is all ready to put up its new eco-friendly and carbon neutral billboard that will exclusively run on nothing but wind and solar energy. If they both are unavailable, then Ricoh is ready to go dark, but not use conventional power to light up this coveted spot! (Talk about commitment)

The $3 million billboard weighs in at 35,000 pounds. It will be 55 feet off the ground at 3 Times Square, wrapping around the northwest corner of Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street. The billboard will be powered by 16 cylindrical wind turbines which are efficient in energy production both in low and high winds. It will also use the 64 solar panels that cover its surface to gain additional power on a day with calmer weather. Apart from being great for the planet, the sign could save as much as $12,000 to $15,000 per month, according to Ricoh, which estimated that the sign would prevent 18 tons of carbon from being spewed into the air yearly.

The sign will use conventional lighting instead of LED lights and while it is great news for the planet in a small yet important way, it is more important that people see this as a trend and it catches on. Just imagine the amount of energy one could save and also the carbon emissions that could be cut out.
