The agency is already investing 26 million pounds in a UK project for developing a technology that will make algal fuel commercially and ecologically viable as alternative fuel by 2020.

Algae for biofuels

Best part of algal biofuel is that they are carbon-neutral and they can be generated in loads. This is the same algae which grow in all scums. This also means that we could actually be recycling the scum (which we are good in generating) to make fuel to drive our cars without worrying about carbon footprints!

World has seen many a wars and crisis over fuels. The non-renewable resources are depleting while global warming is increasing. The pursuit for generating bio-fuels from crops is widely being seen as a cause for global food crisis. Algal biofuels offer ideal solution. They grow in abundance on wastelands and are carbon neutral. Only the technology to translate algal wastelands into fuels for cars needs to be put in place. Any means for green end are welcome!
