If you were wondering which is the craziest gadget to have hit stores lately, it has to be the USB-powered soldering iron by Thanko. Thanko is quite famous for churning out some of the weirdest gadgets ever. This time around, the USB-powered soldering iron also works with a 9V battery and reaches 500 degrees centigrade with the battery.

If you plug into a USB port, then it reaches 300 degrees centigrade and you could get your soldering job done easily. The USB cable is long enough and measures 100 cm long. Thanko is selling the USB-powered soldering iron for $28 and is well worth buying.

Nevertheless, it is quite a bizarre gadget and I fully do not comprehend why it needs to be USB gadget in the first place. I guess it really doesn’t matter if a gadget is bizarre or weird, and when gadgets get weird, they actually become quite attractive and inspire people to buy them. So go ahead and get one for yourself!

There is a Japanese gadget company called Thanko that is well known within the country as well as abroad for it whole range of quirky products (now, we have found someone to blame…errr…credit for the unique fashion-techie sense of some folks). The newest one is a pair of earphones that are connected to a fuzzy car ear hair band. Now, that is a fetish most Japanese trendsetters were looking for considering their love for the feline creature.

So now all the Akiba types and cat lovers have found themselves a great excuse to wear cat ears in public. Plus they have the added incentive of listening to their favorite music too. The earphones are in a combination of white fur ears with pink highlights for the ears.

The technical specs include a 3.5mm headphone terminal, a frequency between 0-10Hz, less than 5% strain at rated power input 0.003W 1000 Hz among others. The earphones weigh just 60g and the makers are also giving a warranty of 6 months. So go ahead and make a fashion statement that will win you some extra admiring glances from music lovers too.

It seems these days that the good stuff is only being sold in Japan and the rest of the world has to just wait and hope that it comes across Pacific sooner than later. Just a few days back we saw the exclusive Manga Keyboard released in the Far East and now it is the turn of the latest in the line up of silent keyboards that makes its way onto store shelves. Thanko have already created quite a buzz and have sold many, many keyboards with their first generation ‘silent’ keyboard and now it is the turn of the next step in evolution. The EX is designed to further cut down on the noise factor when you type by bringing down the decibel count to just 44.5 dB.

This makes the EX 16.5 dB less noisy than any other keyboard in the market today and if you thought that was all then Thanko has more in store for you… quite literally! The silent EX Keyboard comes bundled with Silent Mouse EX; the package exclusively available in only Japan at retail price. Heartening news for Japanese and heart-breaking for techno-geeks across the world!

The main reason for the advancements in technology is to make life easier for people. In other words, hi-tech gadgets are made for the highly lazy in character. Even if you aren’t the lazy type, not to worry, there would be some gadget to turn you lazy.

You may deny this ardently and state the number of hours you spend working diligently at your system, your mouse clicking away busily as you sit on a hard-backed chair. This new mouse then would change your complete lifestyle. The Thanko Lazy Mouse 2 is a wireless mouse that you can use from some distance away while you are comfortably lounging on your sofa.
It’s winter time and the worst experience one can have during meal time is to eat cold food, which most of the time people do at home. You would have packed your lunch hot from home in the morning but it becomes cold by noon. It definitely is not pleasing to nibble on the cold food especially after a long and hard working morning at your workplace.

Much to the relief of your grief, Thanko comes up with a bag that has a heating element in it, which can cook your lunch when plugged in via USB. It can heat up to 60C. Thus, it may not cook your proper lunch literally as in it may not be able to grill a steak or may not be able to kill the bacteria substantially. However, this can at least heat up your food and, allow you to have a hot lunch. After all, who has the plans of cooking and show their culinary skills at workplace? A hot lunch should perhaps suffice!

Indeed, I cannot wait to lay my hands on this product!

Tokyo-based company Thanko has unveiled an analog wristwatch that features a built in video camera. The video camera is carefully incorporated in the watch using a mini camera whose lens is placed between 1 and 2 o’clock on the dial. I wonder why there are so many watches in the market and why Japanese watches always come with features that we normally see on our cellphones.

Thanko’s watch surely does look great and you cannot detect this video camera, which means you can spy on people around you by capturing live videos. This should be the dream of any voyeur and I’m afraid people can’t even be arrested for being nosey for there would be no proof. Perhaps we shall see some controversial ‘Thanko Watch Scams’ which feature lurid lives of celebrities caught in action.

The watch weighs 80g and has a normal look. Video material can be stored using a 4GB memory in avi format and in 352×288 resolution. Audio can also be recorded. You can watch the video on your PC as it can be transferred to it via USB. This uber cool watch can be bought for $140.

Thanko as we all know has been in the news lately for a variety of weird gadgets and products. The last time we heard about them was when they launched the warm mouse and warm mouse pad which was definitely a cool thing to buy, considering the sub zero temperatures during long winters. Now that the winter is here again, Thanko has launched a wrist warmer and a lunch warmer. The wrist band connects to the USB plug in the computer and reaches up to 40 degrees and keeps you warm even on the coldest days.

The Velcro strap fits any wrist thickness. If that isn’t enough and you have been worrying about your lasgagne freezing in your lunch box, all you need to do is buy the Lunchbox with Built-In Heater by Thanko of course. The device comes with anodized aluminum and is further supplemented with Stryofoam insulation which according to me is the best way to trap heat and keep your food hot and tasty.

This has to be one of the coolest pair of gadgets I have come across this winter. Like I say, the Eastern countries have a way with their gadgets and devices.
