It is an electric car, but looks so much like a sleigh you may actually imagine your road to be snow-laden. French Designer Thomas Boulanger has designed the three-wheeler car to help provide a safe and eco-friendly means to commute on cramped city roads.

Such stream-lined designs have been part of innovations in eco-technology among automobiles a lot lately. But this one is touted to have been more inspired by simulators and video games. The car is still a concept.

It has been designed in a way to change its shape from horizontal to vertical which is more like sleeping and standing up positions, in cases when it must adapt to urban traffic snarls.

The vehicle is controlled by a revolving electric motor located under the armrest. You can use your hands to apply breaks at the end of the left armrest and accelerator on the right.

In effect, it virtually allows you to enjoy the thrill of sledding on the road. Its touch controls however ensure a safe and comfortable ride. A pity that it is meant only for a single person ride.

The vehicle may come in handy for those who love some adventure on roads, but if you have a family, think twice about such a concept.

All metros in India face a dearth of proper safe public transport system. Commuters have no choice but to take risks and avail cheapest, sub standard and highly unsafe mode of transport every day. Every day hundreds are killed in road, train accidents but yet complete overhaul of the system does not figure in any political or administrative agenda.

On one hand there is no decent public transport and on the other hand roads are getting choked with ever increasing number of two and four wheelers. The cities are getting highly polluted as a result too. In fact in big cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai out dated three wheeler autos still rule the roads. Why can’t our cities have affordable sleek bus services? How can even Indian metros dream of becoming Shangai or any other modern city?

There are some lifeline transport services like local trains and metros in some big cities. But they are so inadequate to carry large number of masses. The no of trains, carriage capacity, speed and frequency must go up to handle peak hour crowd. Local trains in Mumbai are packed with more than three times carriage capacity. Compartments are so full that people have to lean out of door. Often they hit poles and die instantly. How many more deaths will it take for an overhaul? Yet another election will be over soon but a daily commuter’s life and risks will remain unchanged.

Agreed. The sight of it might seem unbelievable but fact is, the Easy Glider is all set to provide commuters with an all new travelling experience that is super safe too. Isn’t it the bane of modern times that every road in a metro or developing city is crammed with more and more traffic? And safety is an important concern that gets affected in the wrath of the rushed times that we live in today.

The Easy Glider runs on an electric engine that is located in the front wheel, that enables it to touch a speed of 20 km/h. In fact, this vehicle can also work well on slight slopes with much ease.

All the rider has to do is to place himself/herself on the platform, guiding the Glider through handlebars attached to the front wheel. If you wish, you can also buy the batteries option which let the glider run for two to three hours. These batteries also come handy for charging you MP3 or PMP player when on the move. Chances are that you may tire od standing for long. But don’t worry, the brains behind the project will soon think of upgrading the machine with some comfort for rider.

Every time I drive, I end up speeding and when I hit the speed bumps, my bones rattle and that definitely isn’t a great feeling. In fact I just don’t enjoy when I hit the speed bumps. Designers Jae-yun Kim & Jong-Su Lee have created bumps which are based on retractors. These speed bumps sense if the car is slow and if it is, the driver is thanked and congratulated by the speed bump flattening.

The idea is to encourage and insist drivers to maintain a tolerable and consistent speed, which not only decrease the chances of accidents but also are also helpful in fuel economization. A constant speed reduces exhaust waste from a car and the retractable speed bump must help in solving many modern traffic and environment related problems.

As for me, I shall make sure I wouldn’t speed and the flat speed bumps would definitely act both as conditioners and reinforcers for me to maintain a constant speed. Now I am beginning to wonder of the designers majored in psychology instead of industrial design, for their design seems to have a lot of psychological theories behind it.
