The 18 year old twins John and Edward Grimes are the topic of most tabloids in the U.K. The twins have been ridiculed and hated for “having no talent” and for making “unintelligent” remarks. The kids have been almost been the subject of the worst ridicule any teen could go through and the ridicule doesn’t come from peers but adults and newspaper journalists as well. Their fault could be that they look crisp and fresh, and sing less and talk less and look good on stage.

The X Factor experts have come down heavily on the twins but their popularity only seems to be rising. It is a different thing to be able to sing or not, but to rip two kids apart in tabloids and make fun of everything they say or do is something that is uncalled for and not expected of a civilized country. Jedward, or how the twins are known, are virtually indistinguishable and you could go ahead and read about them on Daily Mail.

The twins were also abused physically and verbally at school as they always stick to each other. The tabloids do not seem to be treating them any better. If you do not like someone’s singing, you have the option of not listening to them. Or you could be grateful for all the juice they provide for the tabloids to bitch about. Making a pair of 18 year old twins the object of national hatred is uncalled for.

Rihanna may be the hottest young singer on the planet at the moment, but she seems to be a-struggling with the man in her life. Rumour has it that Rihanna is so worried about losing her baby boy that she has banned him from meeting a certain hopeful.

X-Factor winner, singer Alexandra Burke, has never made it a secret that her humongous crush on Chris Brown isn’t going to dim anytime soon. And this is making our precious beauty hot under the collar. Burke had insisted several times on the X Factor that she would love to meet Chris Brown; her obsession with him ranges to the point where she even contemplated joining a competition just to see Brown in the flesh.  It seemed her dream would become a reality when she decided to attend an after-party, having already arranged the possible meeting with the label bosses, which was to be held following a gig at London’s O2 Arena where Brown was scheduled to perform. Unfortunately for Burke, Rihanna got wind of the plans and decided to play catty by banning Burke from the party!

It may seem like Rihanna’s playing dirty to make sure Brown stays faithful to her. Someone should tell Rihanna she has nothing to worry about.

Honda Scooter’s latest ad campaign “Smarter” projects both scooter and small car and gives brownie points to scooter. But the ad itself could have been smarter.

Advertising is another subtle art of persuasion. When such comparisons are made explicitly the subtleness is lost. Definitely small cars are posing a threat to scooters. Small car manufacturers often project small cars as a safer driving option for small families than two wheelers. Safety and affordable price are their key selling points.

Here scooter doesn’t look convincingly smarter. It could also be projected as a slimmer, lighter and cheaper option for choked metropolitan roads. The X factor is not really visible. There are no celebrity brand ambassadors riding the scooter either. Efficiency is an important factor but not enough when compared to safety of four wheelers.

Counter advertising is in vogue. For example, Pepsi and Coke, Apple and Microsoft often indulge in such tactics. But then they come up with interesting punch lines which sustains public interest. Thats what advertising and publicity all about.
