Taliban Vows To Attack & Kill Pakistani Soldiers

A group of Taliban fighters in a tribal region on the border of Afghanistan have claimed that, they no longer consider the ‘peace deal’ with the Pakistani government a viable one. This clearly indicates that the uneasy truce in much of the FATA or Federally Administered Tribal Areas is coming to end and could result in violent backlash from the Taliban against the government of Pakistan and its security agencies.

The U.S drone missile attacks and the continued Pakistan Army’s offensive in South Waziristan is has been given as by Taliban to pull out of the peace process.

In a separate incident, the tribal area of Baluchistan faced yet another car bomb attack, this time the targets being a military convoy carrying supplies for the coalition troops in Afghanistan. The attack killed four people. As of now none of the militant groups have taken the credit for the bombing, but the volatile region of Baluchistan is known to be a frequent site of attacks on convoys of U.S. and NATO troops, that have to cross through the Pakistani region to enter into Afghanistan.

The peace deal that was brokered by Pakistani diplomats in the February 2008 has been widely criticized by the United States and the international community, stating that accords highlights the weakness of the Pakistan and also, it will give ample time to the Taliban militants to re-arm and regroup. The Pakistan initiated peace deal did infact some level of peace in North Waziristan. However, Taliban broke this accord because of the continuing offensive against the Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud in the South Waziristan region of the FATA.

According to Ahmadullah Ahmadi (Spokesman, Taliban),

“This accord is being scrapped because of Pakistan’s failure to stop the American drone attacks in North and South Waziristan. Since the army is attacking us in North and South Waziristan, we will also attack them.”

The FATA region of Pakistan is known to have numerous terror groups who have largely been fighting amongst themselves to take control of the region. However, with the ongoing operations against the Taliban in FATA, there seems to be a new unity that emerged amongst these groups and it seems that they have now focused their attention on their common enemy, Pakistani Army and its security apparatus.
