The event began in 2007, when it was called the TechCrunch40. Some of the big names that were earlier participants at the TechCrunch50 have now grown to be one of the most successful businesses in the world.

One of the founding members of TechCrunch50 is Tech Crunch members Mike and Jason Calacanis, who is also the CEO of Mahalo, a human powered search engine opened new doors for entrepreneurs who would like to showcase their business or business ideas.
