The main attraction at the annual Coachella Music and Arts Festival 2010 is the giant 45-ft installation, an artistic structure resembling giant white origami crane which also serves as main shelter and destination for all visitors. The artistic crane, inspired by Zenbazuru – the Japanese Legend of Thousand Cranes was created by The Crimson Collective. It is a Los Angeles based consortium of creative artists, designers and architect.

It must have taken huge collective creative effort to create a huge 45 ft white origami crane which sends out universal message of peace, wisdom and prosperity. According to Japanese legend one has to make thousand orgami paper cranes in order to wish for longevity and peace. Here the giant crane sculpture was created with white fabric and aluminum and tension wire skeleton and it revealed even the fine folds like the origami one. This crane looks all set to ‘ascend’ and soar heights and it will because the entire structure can be dismantled, packed and shipped. So here is hope that this amazing artistic symbol of world peace will travel across the globe.

Also the magnificent crane not only reminds visitors of art, legend, architecture and peace symbolism but it also demonstrates how to create energy from sun rather than using conventional sources. This is excellent use of art to send a message of healing and peace during the time of crisis. The three day Coachella Festival is over but one can view “Ascension” during Stage Coach Festival to be held on 24th and 25th April.
