The dictator’s Heir

The youngest son of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il visited China secretly the last week as a special envoy of his father, and met the Chinese president, Hu Jintao.

The report, which cited unidentified sources close to North Korea, came days after the UN Security Council adopt a resolution prohibiting the export of weapons to North Korean government, which increased the tensions after driving a nuclear test in May .

Analysts said the North Korean nuclear test on May 25 and other hostile acts had the primary focus on the North Korea’s public because Kim wants to ensure that his youngest son is his successor. It is believed that the leader has suffered a stroke last year.

A spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said it had no knowledge of the visit. The North Korean media never told people that the country’s leader Kim had chosen an heir.

Jong-un, the third son of Kim Jong-il, was educated in Switzerland and was born in 1983 or 1984. Earlier this month, South Korean media, quoting sources, said Pyongyang asked the principal administrative body of the country and foreign missions to ensure fairness to Jong-un, indicating that he may take the office of his father.

China is the closest ally of North Korea and, in theory, Beijing exerts more influence over Pyongyang than any other power. However, experts say that the relationship is fragile and China, in fact, have limited action for maneuvers.

But as it could be different? How China could contain Kim Jong-il? It is already known that North Korean leader only cares about one thing: himself and his legacy of cruelty.
