connected TV The Dizzy Future Of Google TV. Would It Be A Success Or A Massive Failure?

For the last few weeks, the online is buzzing with the news of the collaboration between Google Inc., Logitech and Sony Corporation for the highly ambitious project called Google TV, instilled by the search giant Google. Numerous blogs and forums are filled with excitement towards Google TV and similarly millions of users across the globe are anxiously waiting for the next giant step taken by Google.

However, Jeremy Toeman of Live Digitally is extremely skeptical of Google TV and has given minimal chance of this project coming to mainstream market and succeed. Experienced in the field of connected TV, Jeremy states that, the prospects for Google TV are slim at best, as not even Apple could manage to get a foothold in this realm. One of the primary reasons for the failure of such projects is the fact that, satellite and cable television networks have already amassed a huge user base have based themselves firmly in the television markets for years. This provides these networks and corporation with a sense on less profitability, if they move from their current business models and venture into new the domain of connected television.

So what could be the reason for Google to venture into a field where no one has been able to succeed before? Firstly, Google plans to tap into the foremost and the biggest advertising market, which without a doubt is television based. Secondly, it could very well be possible that with the success of the Google Nexus One smart phone, the company might have decided to spread its wings more wider with the television media.

Unlike smart phones and mobile devices that users change so frequently, especially in countries like India, the television hardware market is still pretty much the running at the same pace as it used to about five years ago. This is because, consumers do not buy television sets and accessories on a regular basis and inspite of the introduction of new hardware, it is less likely that the users will run for their wallets to grab these equipments.
