Joining the bandwagon of electric vehicles is another eco-friendly car suitable for urban dwellers. Called the Peapod, it stands by its name in size and design. Built of over 95 percent recycled and recyclable materials, Peapod is powered by six 12-volt, maintenance-free, recyclable, gel batteries.Capable of a 30-mile drive on a single charge, the Peapod would be apt for your daily errands and a drive around the suburb. This all-electric neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) costs $12,500, which I think is affordable.

Peapod can be charged in six to eight hours by plugging into a regular 110V outlet or in two to four hours using any standard 220-volt outlet or in just 30 minutes using an optional rapid charger and costs a mere $.02 a mile. Though it’s small and compact on the exterior, the interior seems spacious and comforting. Apart from the four-door design, we see here, Peapod plans to offer it in a two-door version called the “TwinPod” and a truck version called the “UtilityPod”.

The Peapod also meet the latest requirements set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for this class of vehicles. Now, can any other electric vehicle be more eco-friendly and people-friendly than the Peapod!
