The Japanese Find a Green Way Out to ‘Rain Wipe’ Umbrellas

Most of us never think much about the umbrella-drying devices positioned at the departmental store entrances, but this new Rain Wipe might grab your attention the next time you spot it. Annon, a Japanese company has come out with this eco-friendly umbrella dryer.

Unlike other such devices, Rain Wipe doesn’t need any power or uses plastic to wipe down the umbrella. It uses a unique sponge-like material that sucks in water and drains into a tray beneath. All you have to do is, put your umbrella through the opening and slide it back and forth for a couple of times. The water collected in the pan can be poured after 3,000 such umbrellas have been dried.

This device will save electricity as well as decrease the plastic trash generated. So, the next time you go out to a store in the rain, don’t forget to look around for these. You’ll be pleased to see it work.
