The much talked about and much awaited second season of Indian Premier League has finally begun in South Africa today. The Twenty20 Cricket has been the talk of this summer with the shuffling of the venues et all. Finally, with South African equally excited about the event like Indians, the passion for the cricket has been pretty high.
The tickets for the weekend has been sold out no sooner had the bookings begun. A lot of effort was put from the marketing division of the IPL as well. 8 million rand was given for scholarships in local schools. The T20 was premiered in the SuperSports channel, with the season one footage being aired frequently. The IPL teams were shown around in buses, creating havoc in the South African traffic. Local dancers added to the sizzle and excitement on the city streets. The locals aren’t complaining. They have totally embraced the game and the whole event. Their excitement is evident.
The players seem to enjoy it here as well. The tropical climate is much more tolerable than the Indian summer. Cheerleaders can let out a sigh of relief, with no one to point fingers at their costumes.
