The Middle Finger Saga

finger002 The Middle Finger Saga
When the Australian cricketer Greg Chappell showed his middle finger to the Indian audiences, the nation was so offended that it asked not just for an apology but the hapless Aussie’s blood. Indians hissed “Showing middle finger is against the culture of India”. They created huge furor that the act of showing a middle finger is the most obscene, unIndian thing to do. So cultured are the people of the world’s largest democracy!

Talking about democracy, India recently had her elections and to put on a colorful (let’s say gaudy) show, all the Bollywood stars voted and posed for photographs. The most revolting and obscene of them all was having to see Amitabh Bachchan and his family gesturing at the nation.

The annoying Aishwarya Rai, the unshaven and slimy Abhishek Bachchan revealed their ugly selves that day. It was printed in national newspapers for everyone to see. The revolting and disgusting sight of the gray haired old man and his family showing the middle finger after casting their votes.

They must have thought anything they do would be accepted by the highly cultural Indians. Hypocritical Indians who swore against the middle finger being against Indian culture did accept the family brandishing their fingers too, and they lapped it all up. This hypocritical situation nauseated me so much that for a minute I hated cricket a little less than I always have done. Chappell’s middle finger was just not offensive.

Best part is it was finally the electorate which showed the power of middle finger- they showed middle finger to both Left (didn’t them chance to play games in coalition politics and also get away with crimes they committed in Nandigram and elsewhere) and to BJP. It humbled both communists and communalists!

  2. Middle finger to all of them! However, we are at least saved from the communists and the communalists. Guess corruption is still better than having to fear for one’s life.

How disgusting! If it weren’t for the Bachan family, people would be burning buses and stoning shops on the road talking about how actors are murdering the culture of India. Perhaps, the Bachan family truly is dumb enough not to know what a middle finger means. I thought the ink was to be on the first finger?
