Think again if you have been avoiding carbohydrates from your diet plan in the hope of shedding some pounds. According to a research conducted by cognitive psychologist Holly A. Taylor, PhD and her colleagues on 19 women aged between 22 and 55, restricting carbohydrates severely from our diet plan may hamper our memory.
This study demonstrates that the food that we eat can have an immediate impact on brain function. This is interesting but how far one can rely on this study is rather doubtful. An Australian research scientist Grant D. Brinkworth, PhD argues that the low-carbohydrate weight loss diets do not necessarily affect memory. Brinkworth and his colleagues conducted a similar research on the same in 2007 and found no harmful effects on memory for restricting carbohydrate intakes.
These studies can be confusing and often misleading. Hence, it would be silly of me to go by any of these researches to lose weight. I would rather eat a balanced diet and perspire profusely in the nearest local gym. As for memory, let me try and remember the way back home from gym. Was that a right or left? Err..
