The almost forgotten Bachman-Wilson house along the Millstone River which was the brain-child of renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright came back into limelight after it won the merit award for preservation in the AIA-New Jersey’s 2008 design competition. This house that was built in 1954 is one among the four Usonian architectural marvels designed by Wright in New Jersey. It is presently owned by the architects Lawrence and Sharon Tarantino who bought it way back in 1988.

The kitchen here destroyed in 1999 was restored by the couple according to the Wright’s plans. They also set up a Vermont’s historic barn that is being used as a design studio by the architects. The house is equipped with several green features like radiant heat, a passive solar design, recycled construction debris and natural daylighting that conserves a lot of energy and keep the surroundings clean.
Wright’s Usonian style architecture can be seen in more than a hundred homes across the country and proves the point that green architecture existed way back since the mid 1950s and is exclusively designed for low income citizens who would need lesser energy compared to the usual homes.
