If you want to ‘poke’ a friend on Facebook, think again before doing it for this simple act can put you behind the bars literally. Many Facebook users might possibly be aware that ‘poking’ is a unique feature that delivers no message but only informs the user that another user has poked them but many of them do not know that this feature can literally land them into trouble.
The recent victim of this notorious feature on Facebook is Shannon D.Jackson, a 36 year old Hendersonville woman. She was arrested on 25th September for violating an order of protection. Her only crime to use the ‘poke’ option on Facebook to contact another Hendersonville woman. This is rather strange!
Why would a popular social networking site like Facebook freely include an option that amounts to misdemeanor? However, violators of this offence can be punished with up to 11 months, 29 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,500. Apparently, Jackson was transported to Sumner County jail and her bond was set at $1,500. She is scheduled to appear in Sumner County General. Facebook had rather removed this ‘poke’ option lest it puts millions of its users behind the bars.
