Now, that’s a unique way to go green! We are talking about Pend D’Oreille Winery up in the North part of Idaho. Well, the owners are selling their Bistro Rouge wines in refillable 1.5L bottles. This means that the customers can bring their bottle back and get a refill for a lesser price than a new bottle, that too as often as they please.

In fact, wine maker Steve Meyer went on record to say that the program was started off with 300 bottles and 250 of them have already been sold. So much for the green spirit! It is quite a delight for the winery to have folks coming back with the same bottle, a useful culture that will hopefully spread to other arenas too.

There’s more. The 1.5L bottles have been made from 50% recycles glass and even come with a permanent silk-screened label to put your name on it with a marker. The first bottle may cost you $25 that includes a synthetic stopper from Supreme Corq and a tamper-proof seal. Subsequent refills can be obtained for $16 with the winery owner giving the cork stopper for future refills. A very cool concept, that is green too. We are impressed!
